Born on April 8, 1859, Michel Oreste-Lafontant was a Haitian politician who served as president of the Republic of Haiti from May 4, 1913 to January 27, 1914.During his presidency, he supported the german merchants and held an anti-american political policy. After losing his majority after 8 months of presidency, he resigned on January 27, 1914, just a few months before the beginning of the World War II.
Michel Oreste was elected during a troublesome period, after the death of President Tancrède Auguste, his predecessor. Some were worried about falling under a dictature, that lead to his resignation on January 27, 1914. Under the pressure of an insurrection, he left the country.

Né le 8 avril 1859, Michel Oreste-Lafontant dit Michel Oreste est un homme politique haïtien qui fut président de la République d’Haïti du 4 mai 1913 au 27 janvier 1914. Durant sa présidence, il soutien les commerçants allemands et mène une politique anti-américaine. Ayant perdu sa propre majorité après huit mois de présidence, il démissionne le 27 janvier 1914, quelques mois avant le début de la Première Guerre Mondiale. Michel Oreste fût élu dans une période de trouble faisant suite à la mort du président Tancrède Auguste. Certains craignaient alors une dictature, le président Oreste démissionna le 27 janvier 1914 sous la pression d’une insurrection, et quitta le pays.
